Cricket

Our primary sport and the heartbeat of BHSC. We hold DCB First Division status and compete across hardball and tapeball formats, from T10 to multi-day fixtures. Our youth programme has produced Demerara U16 and East Coast U19 selections.

Better Hope has a historically strong football tradition. The club's football programme is focused on junior development, with a female National Coach working alongside young players to build skills, discipline, and teamwork on the pitch.

Facilities

The Better Hope Community Centre Ground serves as the home base for all BHSC sporting activities.

Located on Centre Road / Narine Street in Better Hope, the ground features a cricket pitch, pavilion with bleachers, and multi-purpose areas for other sports. The facility is a hub of community life on the East Coast Demerara.

Government Investment in Upgrades

The Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport is investing in upgrades to 10 community centre grounds in the Better Hope/LBI NDC area. Improvements include ground levelling, lighting, washroom facilities, fencing, and pavilion upgrades - part of a national $1 billion sports infrastructure programme overseen by Minister Charles Ramson Jr.

A legendary village sporting festival that once brought the entire community together - and is being revived.

Revival of a Village Tradition

The Better Hope Games were once the pride of the community - a weekend-long festive fusion of sporting contests that brought the entire village together. The ground would overflow with villagers competing for prizes across multiple disciplines.

Beyond the sport, the Games were a community festival. Sweetie booths, toy booths, and food stalls transformed the grounds into a celebration of village life, with families gathering from across the East Coast Demerara.

BHSC is working to revive the Better Hope Games, bringing back this beloved tradition as part of the club's broader mission to strengthen community bonds through sport.

Community Initiatives
